The benefits the ASBP aims to deliver whilst encouraging a move to more sustainable products are substantial, not just for the built environment but also to the wider society. As yet these benefits are largely un-tapped and have not yet been quantified, but include:

• Higher performing and healthier buildings.
• Buildings with a substantially reduced carbon footprint.
• A more resource efficient (in terms of raw material utilisation, waste, and energy) construction products industry.
• More robust supply chains with greater resource security
• Reduced transport inefficiencies
• Increased economic activity within product supply chains
• Added value for UK’s natural (mineral and bio-based) resources
• Improved understanding of the relationship between people, buildings and nature
